Even as women's clothing progressed into slimmer and less poofy dresses pockets were always there. It was just a practical thing to have, women would store things they had bought, money, tools, and other things. Only the rich people didn’t need pockets to carry their belongings, they had other people to do that. In films such as Beauty in the Beast, you see Belle putting things in her pockets.
In the mid-1900s, girls skirts were shorter and made of less fabric but alas, they had pockets. American women were pushing for freedom and mobility, and long dresses were a hassle to move around in, so a lot of women started wearing shorter skirts and some women even wore pants.
Even dresses were tight fitting and no pockets were to be found. Purses are now treated like luxury needs. And now women are complaining about the lack of pockets in their clothes. When women find pockets in their clothes they practically celebrate. Giving birth to a new kind of meme. In conclusion, women need pockets.
